Wildlife Conservation Project – Griffon Vulture, Uvac 2020

Project holder – Foundation for the Protection of Birds of Prey , a non-governmental and non-profit organization that deals with the protection and preservation of endangered species and their natural habitats, as well as the return of endangered species.

Another successful year in support of the Griffon Vulture to survive and expand its colony in the Special Nature Reserve “Uvac”. At the end of the 20th century, the Serbian Griffon Vulture remained in 6 pairs, ie. 12 individuals. People, who today stand as proud members of the Foundation for the Protection of Birds of Prey, have saved from disappearing from our area this unique species of vultures whose colony in 2019 numbers 164 nesting pairs and over 500 individuals !

“Griffon Vulture has national, cultural, educational, economic, sanitary and aesthetic significance, and is an attribute of the local communities that own it,” believe the people gathered around the Foundation, and we in their own way joined their idea and provided support. . Our member, Borisav Markovic, had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the Foundation and its membership, but also with the birds themselves as the central motive and inspiration of the entire project, in this year’s action of marking young individuals of the Griffon Vulture. Borisav gave his contribution as part of the technical team of the speleological club ASAK from Belgrade, which has been helping the Foundation on this project for years.

Impressions from the action are rich and vivid. Summarized in one sentence: “The first look at the colony, about 120 individuals at that moment, which takes off from the feeder, spreads all its wings and takes up space in the sky, at the same time gently and powerfully cruising in spontaneous formation, crossing the dam continues the canyon. such a powerful bird, a true master of the sky, and a sight that awakens energy in a person and leaves a special impression that must be experienced. ” Be sure to read about the importance of the Griffon Vulture for its natural habitat and biodiversity on the Foundation’s website . We will always support their dedicated work. We look forward to all future joint actions. We continue to be interested in the wild world. Simply natural.
